To say Game 1 of the World Series didn’t go as expected would be an understatement.
Things fell apart right away for the St. Louis Cardinals, giving up three runs in an abysmal first inning.
The highlight — or lowlight — was the reversed call by the umpires on a botched play at second.
Here’s the play:
The Cardinals couldn’t recover after that. In fact, in the second, starter Adam Wainwright looked to have called for a pop up and let it drop between him and catcher Yadier Molina.
Add it up, and the Cardinals are reeling after one game.
Momentum lasts only as long as your next starter, and it’ll be up to a rookie to turn things around for St. Louis.
It wouldn’t be an understatement to say the fate of the Series rests on Michael Wacha.
He’s done it before, but not in this situation.
If he doesn’t the Cardinals go home down 0-2 in a heap of trouble.
